Working Out The Poppy

I put the image of the poppy that I 'twirled' back into Elements and cropped it into a square format. Then I used the Ink Outlined filter set at 17-Stroke Length, 25-Dark Intensity and 37-Light Intensity and got some very interesting results which I chose to save for reference. It was still missing something so using the brush stroke feature I dropped turquoise into some of the deeper midtones to bring in a contrasting color. Looking at the image on screen, I think the turquoise needs to be brighter as it's not showing up well enough. (Btw, forgive my crude brush technique. I'm not terribly steady with my computer mouse.) It's becoming more abstract with every change. The trick for me will be to bring this to fruition with brush on paper.

very very cool, i'm quite interested, just don't get your heart set on this because you'll never paint it the same....but it might be better!

I'm circling this idea trying to figure out a plan of attack but with no illusions. I'm thinking the gesso will be the way to go for texture but not sure how the colors will work out. I sanded down my gessoed paper last night and got rid of unwanted hills and valleys. This one will probably be a WIP for quite some time. It's either going to bomb bigtime or be great.

lol, I bet it will be great ;) It looks very cool on the mock up! Gessoed paper, hmm interesting, I will keep peeking back, no presure ;)

I hope you're right, Tracey. It's still on my kitchen table getting gessoed little by little. No paint on it yet. I fear this one will be a looooong WIP. If it turns out too bad I'll just pretend it never happened.;)

That's such a great design/pattern, I'd be doing something with this for sure.

Believe me...I am! Or at least I'm trying. It's currently on hold while I figure out how to save it. I may have to just gesso over the whole thing and redo.
