Bearded Iris ~ Complete

This is one of those paintings that I could fiddle away at for days and days but I think it's time to call it done. It's already slightly overworked for my taste. Iris 'Chasing Rainbows' lived up to it's name. I think I used almost every color on my palette save for red.

It is a beauty Billie. I know how easy it is to tweak too much and I have to stop myself from doing it too.

I know you've stopped at just the right time for this one.

I hope so, Jeanette. I had to do a bit of scrubbing on this one. After that I said enough is enough. Also I wanted to recreate the translucency of the upper petals. I think(?) I achieved that.

backgrounds have to be integrated with the subject, or you're better off without one. the best were step 1 and 2, those were great, I could easily live with either. take my word for it! :)

Point taken, Nick. This could've benefited by adding some of the purples and yellows in the BG possibly by 'hinting' at other flowers behind the main subject. Since this was just a busy piece and not going to be offered for sale I didn't do a whole lot of planning.
