I thought I'd post a quick update. Here's where I'm at right now. I haven't added any pastels yet. I'll be using those to complete the cat's fur and also for the stars. I'm not 100% sure if the cat's head is 'reading' right. I tried to gently 'force' my male cat, Digby's head into a similar position to see how it looked. Ever try to force a cat to do anything? Don't!
I've got a line drawing for another floral pour waiting in the wings. It will be a grouping of Lady Slipper orchids. If it works out it should be nice.

This is coming along very well. I think your read about the cat's head is not the head, but the ears that may not be positioned quite right.
And convincing a cat to do something? Yeah... good luck with that! :)
i think you're right about the ears, Jeanette. i've got them too long for one thing. even if Digby had cooperated he's got a lop ear from an old injury so there was no way to get a good bead on the size and positioning. I can't even catch Gizmo(my other cat)so i can't use her for a model either. i'll keep fussing around until i get it right eventually.
Billie - this is really coming to life now.
One of my favourite expressions is "its like herding cats" - IMPOSSIBLE. Which is why I love cats - they beat dogs hands down!
Can't wait to see the floral!
this one will definitely be a do-over, Anita. i need to make some major changes to the cat. love the saying..."herd cats". can you imagine? LOL
Billie my cat is coming along great I can’t wait to see it when it’s finished. I do agree with others about the ears not being shaped right, is it to late to fix them? I’m also having a hard time deciding whether or not I like the color of the cat, the one I have at home is a tabby so it’s light to dark gray and a fair amount of black strips. I do think that dark colors would not work out well at night even by moon light…I think.
Have a nice evening,

Hey Mike.:) this one will be a do-over for sure. the ears can't be corrected at this point so i will have to start over. I'm going to continue working on this one for awhile longer. i'm trying to resolve all the kinks before starting anew. still trying to work out the head/ear issue. i'll figure it out somehow. someone on Wetcanvas suggested i make a model of a cat's head from a kneaded eraser and use that for a reference.
IMO, a dark colored or grey cat wouldn't work well. that's why i chose an orange tabby. well, sorta tabby. hope that's ok with you.
Billie this is a fantastic piece. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished.
Thank, Mary! I'm hoping this one is finally ready for it's re-do.
