Well, it turns out that the bug I caught got into just about everything on my computer. My son had to dump and reload the entire system so I now have a brand new computer...sorta. I've spent the last fews days re-downloading my photo editors, Java, etc. We did manage to save my pictures and documents. *phew* I now have much better security which I WILL update & use faithfully. That's my New Years resolution for 2008, 2009, etc.
For Christmas I had asked for a tripod. My thinking? I plan to photograph and copy my artwork onto a disc. I'll then have my prints made from the disc so I can mat and frame the originals without wondering if I've had enough printed beforehand. I already had a little Kodak Easyshare CX6445 which has been very good to me. I've had the best luck photographing rather than scanning my work. The images just seem to be better. I did get my tripod along with a brand new Canon Powershot S5 IS from my boys and WOWZERS! According to the manuals(of which there are several) this thing can do everything but the dishes. I'm still studying and playing with my new toy so it'll be a little while before I'll be posting any shots.

you brought those kids up right!!! what a fabulous present - have fun :)
Billie, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Your new camera looks lovely. Enjoy it! I got a new digital SLR this past summer. I still pretty much do everything in point-and-shoot mode, but I love it. Yesterday I lucked into a tour of a historic building in town and I took literally 100 pictures!! Ah, the beauty of digital. :)
(P.S. Glad your computer is all fixed too. I'm lucky to have hubby to take care of security and back-ups and all that important jazz.)
Hi, Vivien! Maybe I did something right! or maybe my boys are just generous spirits by nature.:) My oldest son, James bought the camera. Casey, the youngest got me all the extras. they support me in my artistic endeavors and it means so much to me.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you, Stacy! I'm sure i'll start out out in the point and shoot mode at first but truthfully i'm dyin' to try the macro and super macro features. i'd love to get some good night shots for a change, too. an SLR? WOWZERS! i hear that's a great camera, too.
Billie - my camera is the first of this series and although it's low (relative to this one) on megapixels it still produces wondeful photos. It's got the best shuttershake prevention of any camera in this price range.
And you KNOW I sympathise about the computer woes. Can I also recommend periodic back-ups of pictures on to an external hard disc and then you can get back up and running very fast if need be.
Katherine, i'm happy to hear you were so satisfied with your Canon. i have high hopes once i become familiar with the features on mine that my photos will improve and i'll be able to take more of my own references with confidence.
you know, i've been saying that i should probably copy my photos and important info onto discs but just never got around to doing it. i think your advice is spot on. thx!
Billie, that is a beauty of a camera and I can hardly wait to see pictures from it posted.
I just had to have my computer emptied too Billie because of a bug but they were also able to rescue my pictures and documents. That is not fun and I still have things to download.
I got a new camera too - aren't they great? Thankfully mine isn't that different to my old one so not too much of a learning curve. Have fun learning! You'll catch the photography bug now!
Hi Billie! Congrats on the camera and on the great kids. When mine are old enough I hope they are like yours! I have the Canon Rebel SLR and I love it. I still haven't figured it all out but like Stacy said it's great even as a point-and-shoot. Oh, nice job on your banner. I see you mastered that immediately like you do everything else! Well, Happy New Year!
sorry to be so late in replying, Anita. the verdict is still out on this camera. at least until i can get it figured out better. this thing is complicated! i go cross-eyed reading all the manuals!
Hi Lisa! i have heard about the Canon Rebel SRL. all good things, too.:)
yup, i figured out how to create a banner. used my trial version of Elements. it worked great! Happy 2008 to you also.:) i see you're off to an incredible start!
