I had planned to redo my painting, Lily-of-the-Valley and as luck would have it someone contacted me recently to do another version as a commission so I've been playing around with the theme. This is not the final but I liked the antique look well enough to post it. It reminds me of an old botanical. This is also on gessoed paper.
I like this a lot Billie. It does have the feeling of something from the past which suits this traditional flower well.

Yup...gesso first, then paint. I let the paint dry overnite, then wiped it away with a damp paper towel. The paint lightly stained the gesso giving it that aged appearance. I may try this again with another floral. I like the effect.
ReplyDeleteVery neat Billie! I want to try this too!!! Did you dilute the gesso? I have never used this stuff, but want to try it. I love both the paintings.. but the 1st one is fabulous!

ReplyDeleteThank you, Srishti.:) I don't dilute the gesso but I sometimes use a damp brush to spread it over the paper or create texture. In this case I used a palette knife which I like best. The knife creates some really neat textures.
